Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominees for the 20 17 Golden Globes today, shining a spotlight on a few of the most effective television and movies of the entire year.

The HFPA is definitely a wacky group, known because of its particular group of preferences that occasionally run opposite to the essential consensus, but 20-16 was such a satisfactory year in amusement that even it couldn’t do much incorrect.

The critically-acclaimed musical Lalaland led all movies with seven nominations, including best picture (musical or comedy) and acting nominations for its two leads, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. Based on awards prediction website Gold Derby, Lalaland is the prohibitive favourite to win the Oscar for the best picture. (These nominations will likely be introduced in January.)

Other Oscar competitions, like Manchester from the Sea and Moon-Light, each acquired numerous Globes nominations—as did Arrival, the lovely and haunting sci fi movie starring Amy Adams as a linguist who tries to talk to aliens.

In Television land, HBO once again reigned, re-taking the throne from Netflix as the community having the most nominations (14). The premier cable station was aided by the development of its success new show Westworld, which received three nominations. Consistently a powerful awards competition, fX, finished second. Love beginners like FX’s Atlanta and Netflix’s Stranger Issues joined the typical suspects of Game of Thrones, Veep, and Clear.

Jimmy Fallon will host the awards on Sunday, Jan. 8 on NBC. Here is the complete set of nominees:
